Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has refused to be drawn on whether he would make a move for Liverpool's Raheem Sterling.

England winger Sterling, 20, is expected to tell Reds boss Brendan Rodgers he wants a move this summer.

"In the summer we will bid for people; at the moment we are not in transfer mode at all," said Wenger.

"You absolutely want me to say something that I don't want to say. I don't like to lie. If I say that I will and I don't do it, then I have lied."

"Liverpool owner John W Henry will not be bounced into a sale, bullied by requests to leave or held to ransom by Sterling and his representative Aidy Ward. Nor should he be."

Arsenal face Sunderland on Wednesday knowing a point will all-but secure third place in the Premier League.

They will also bid for a second successive FA Cup win when they play Aston Villa in the final at Wembley on 30 May.

"We want to finish our season well," said Wenger. "We have put massive effort in since the start of the season to come back into a potentially good position in the Premier League.

"The transfer period comes after the FA Cup final."
