Crystal Palace: Frank de Boer vows to fight, Steve Parish 'frustrated' with results

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish said he was "frustrated" at the club's "terrible start" as the Eagles suffered their fourth consecutive league defeat.

Palace lost 1-0 at Burnley on Sunday and are 19th in the Premier League with no goals scored in their four matches.

Eagles boss Frank de Boer, who was only appointed in June, insists he will "give 100%" as the club's manager.

After the Burnley loss, Parish said: "We're four games in. It's a terrible start but we have to stick together."

Answering fans' questions on Twitter,external-link he added: "People are frustrated, I'm frustrated, so are the management and players. We know we are better than this.

"I'm defending everyone at the club who is working their backside off to turn this around. Football teams lose games. It happens.

"Who has the better squad, us or Burnley? We had a much weaker squad when we finished 11th. The buck stops with me; I've never run away from that."

Despite an improved display, Palace were unable to find a response to Chris Wood's third-minute goal for the Clarets.

It puts more pressure on De Boer, who recently met with Parish to discuss their bad start.

"I am just focusing on what I can control and so are my staff and my players," said De Boer. "[The future] is for other people to decide but while I'm the manager of Crystal Palace I will give 100%."

De Boer said he took heart from his side's performance at Turf Moor, which saw them have 65% of possession and produce 23 efforts at goal to their opponents' four.

Only some poor finishing - notably from striker Christian Benteke and defender Scott Dann, who headed wide from point-blank range in the final minute - prevented them taking at least a point from the game.

"We have to reward ourselves and we didn't do that today," added the Dutchman, who has managed Ajax and Inter Milan. "I am disappointed about the result but not about how we played.

"This is the starting point, because usually if you create that many chances you will get what you deserve, and we didn't.

"We have to look in the mirror and be responsible that you have to take the chances, and you get punished when you don't.

"But if you look at how we showed spirit, we were quite dynamic. What we showed gives us a lot of hope for the future."

De Boer was only appointed as Palace boss this summer, as successor to Sam Allardyce, who left the club after helping them escape relegation last season.

At the start of this month, Parish admitted that the start made by De Boer had "not been great" and that football was a "results-based business".

    4 games into the season, and pressure is being piled onto a new Manager by articles like this. If Palace win their next game, will he he suddenly go from "incompetent" to "competent"? If he was the best candidate in July, who would replace him? For God's sake, give the guy a chance!!!

    They did everything but score yesterday. They created clear chances and dominated the game. A defender makes an error and they miss loads of chances (plus a couple of good stops by the keeper) there's only so much you can pin on the manager and yesterday he did everything he could to get the result. It's football, it happens like that sometimes. Stop trying to get him sacked!

    The media is relentless in it's hounding of managers this "presure" isn't stemming from Palace fans.

    There were FOUR stories on the BBC sport website questioning de Boar's position 4 games into the season. Talk about a self fulfilling prophecy.

    When something does happen to the manager's job the media then wring their hands & bemoan "trigger happy chairmen".

    The media are a disgrace.

    Short term pain for long term gain - good for Palace giving it a go to try and break away from the dreary non-achievers that they were.
    Stick with De Boer and you'll witness & enjoy football and get somewhere rather than just be happy with PL survival with a dinosaur Manager and tactics.

    Why are the media ignoring the abject performance of Bournemouth? Or is Eddie Howe, the golden boy, somehow immune from criticism and media pressure? Pretty sure they too have zero points after 4 games.

    A bit early to sack the manager.

    Perhaps should have stuck with Pardew but will the owners ever admit to their mistakes?

    Give him time for his style to come good.

    If Palace want to play football the way it should be played, then they will need to stick with FDB and give him a chance.

    It's quite disgraceful how managers seem to get the boot far too quickly these days!

    Rome wasn't built in a day so let's give him a season or two and see what he can do.

    So many changes in a short space of time at Palace, how can anyone expect a perfect start.
    Anyway a team creating so many chances and dominating possession is not a bad thing, very unlucky at the weekend so things looking better for me

    I've said it on other HYS already, but hilarious that despite having worse start ever with no points and no goals, Palace are still above West Ham hahaha. Add that to the fact that West Ham fans sit so far away from the pitch that they can't see the game any more (but have a great view for athletics), imagine how they are feeling.

    If Hodgson is favourite to replace De Boer then Palace are in trouble,football must be the only business where a manager can constantly fail and get sacked then another club is crazy enough to appoint them.The World Cup proved that Hodgson is clueless.

    Sacking De Boer after 4 games would be totally ridiculous, especially after Palace's performance yesterday. It suggested he has the tactics and spirit right and was just unlucky with poor finishing. Many decent teams can lose 4 on the spin in the Prem. Give him another month at least and things will look different; get rid of him and Parish deserves all he gets!

    It is not a coincidence that two of the clubs that are struggling early this season both have chairman who love to see themselves in the limelight. Too often the cameras switch over to the stands to see the coiffured Steve Parish grimacing at his average team.Its the same at West Ham where the ridiculous D.Sullivan is dressed as a Russian.Both men should back their managers and keep a low profile.

    Sacking a manager after 4 games when a club claims they want to change their style of play is amateurish, yet not a surprise these days especially witha club like Palace. The players have to take much of the blame as a manager cannot account for the number of basics mistakes and misses in yesterdays game alone. If Palace do replace the manager I for one hope they go down

    Palace were far better than Burnley technically, and had enough chances to win two games at least. Thought they grew into the game and dominated periods of it. Palace are pleasing to the eye and will get better results with a little more time and a lot more rub of the green. The mistake hard to believe, pub team player would not have played that ball. Not a Palace fan, hope thay give De Boer time

    De Boer comes with a high pedigree. The problem I think is the nasty little scouser who sits next to him. I sat behind their dugout twice last season and all he does is berate the 4th official for 90 mins. He is a Big Sam man through and through and is not behind the new manager.
