Tomer Hemed: Brighton striker given three-match ban over DeAndre Yedlin incident

Brighton striker Tomer Hemed will serve a three-match ban after being found guilty of violent conduct during Sunday's game against Newcastle.

The 30-year-old Israel international, who scored the winner in his side's 1-0 victory, appeared to stamp on defender DeAndre Yedlin in the 88th minute.

The incident was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.

Hemed denied the Football Association charge, which was proven after an independent regulatory commission met.

Brighton boss Chris Hughton defended his player after the match, saying: "There has been contact but my first impression is no intent and, knowing the individual, I would say no intent."

Hemed will miss the following Premier League matches:

1 October - Arsenal (away)
15 October - Everton (home)
20 October - West Ham (away)

Deserved the ban but it doesn't benefit Newcastle. The foul was committed against their player but the beneficiaries of the ban are teams in competition with Newcastle. Video evidence not really any use in this case as the referee didn't see it so therefore wouldn't be able to review it. This is where the 4th official could step in and bring it to his attention, then Newcastle would benefit.

Yet still the dinosaurs at the FA refuse point blank to use video evidence during the game.

The 2 players had been niggling each other prior to the stamp so it's hard to believe that Hemed just happened to accidentally stand on him shortly afterwards. When you look at it from behind he actually hesitates for a second then brings his foot down on Yedlin's leg. @12 Hemed was charged with violent conduct therefore his ban has to be 3 games if found guilty regardless of his plea.

I'm a Brighton fan and I didn't see Hemed offer an apology for his 'accidental' stamp. I think that ultimately sealed his fate. Foolish..but we move on to beat Arsenal on Sunday! *in hope, more than expectation* :)

@55 No...just no. Even in the backwater of language known as America a stamp still has the meaning of a downwards thrust of the foot. Don't enforce the American stereotype anymore than you have already. Thanks :)

I was there ,I belive it was accidental.
There was no kick off between the players at the time.
Benitez said nothing about it at his after match interview.
If its trial by football TV pundits(Souness of all people !) , what about the elbow to Hemeds head a few minutes earlier ?
Should that incident be looked at now?
And in slow-mo everything can look bad.

As a neutral in this I watched this incident live, and on repeat and I am still unsure if anyone can say he stood on the player deliberately, Only he will know that so this judgement by the Football Association now opens the door on future punishments that they shall decide if there was intent or not .

Completely idiotic stamp by the one fit striker Brighton have. Rather than supporting his appeal they should have fined him immediately. They now go into 3 difficult games using sellotape and string.

So the FA have deemed this as a red card offence, giving Hemed a 3 match ban in the process. All standard procedure...except for amateur league football where a red card is a months ban, which equates to 5 games if you only play one game a week. Or 10 games in my case as I play twice a week.
A 3 match ban for Hemed and Mane seems reasonable when I look at it that way

You can tell right off he knew what he was doing. The movement was not natural etc

Criticised LFC for appealing the Mane ban and criticise Hughton here.OK to be ambivalent just after the game but surely after studying the video he should fine, sanction his player not defend him

One defence for him is that there was little downward force - more petulance than seeking serious injury

It was blatantly intentional,the toe rag had a sneaky little glance toward the ref to see if he had been caught.No place for it,I hope he got a hefty financial penalty as well.

FA needs to stamp this behaviour out.

Strange how Ming's got a 5 match ban for stamping on the Big Swedes pony-tail, but this guy only gets 3?

At least they're being consistantly inconsistent...
