Paul Pogba: Man Utd midfielder has long-term injury, says Jose Mourinho

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba's hamstring injury will keep him out "long term", says manager Jose Mourinho.

The 24-year-old France playmaker limped off 19 minutes into the Reds' Champions League win over Basel and he has missed the past four games at Old Trafford.

It was initially thought Pogba would be out for between a month and six weeks following the injury on 12 September.

Mourinho would not give a specific timescale on his return.

Mourinho said he "does not speak about long-term injuries" but was more hopeful on the fitness of defenders Phil Jones and Antonio Valencia.

"I cannot have hope, like with Jones or Valencia who I can see in training and hope for a positive answer," added the Portuguese.

Pogba's fellow midfielders Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini also look set to miss Saturday's home game against Crystal Palace.

The people saying this isn't an issue worth discussing and that there are more important things going on, they are correct. However this is the sport section on the BBC website and they discuss sport here, If they want to discuss more hard hitting content, i suggest they scroll to the top of the page and click the tab that says 'NEWS'.

Best wishes to Pogba, Aguero and Mendy for healthy recoveries. Hope this spate of serious injuries eases up as well.

The main thing is not to rush Pogba back. Make sure he is fully recovered then reintegrate him back to first team football kind of like SAF did with Roy Keane.

Not the end of the world. Luckily there's some great depth in the United squad. Shame Carrick couldn't step in though.
With a poor form Palace up next, it'd be nice to see one of the youth players brought up for a starting XI.

Pathetic, why do people always make things appear unimportant by comparing with other world issues? Totally irrelevant. On this basis, everything in the world other than North Korea, Starvation and Brexit is irrelevant, so lets stop discussing those other issues and just stick to the 3 you think are really worth talking about.

At least Man United's trophy cabinet has new bright shinny trophies in it. I would imagine LFC's silverware is looking very jaded by now.

Pogba is injured......why the uproar?
players get injured all the time - thats why teams have squads, to deal with that very thing!!

OK i get that he was expensive BUT man utd have such a good squad that this shouldn't be an issue to them.

@142. I am sorry but that is absolute rubbish. When he was at Juventus the number of people who said he was world class and Man Utd were fools to let him go. When he signed for Man Utd for that fee those same people's opinions changed literally overnight. It was not based on anything on the pitch. He is one of the very best central midfielders in the world, no doubt. He was at Juventus & here too.
