Kevin de Bruyne: Manchester City to confirm new deal for Belgian

Manchester City are set to confirm midfielder Kevin de Bruyne has signed a lucrative long-term contract extension.

The 26-year-old Belgium playmaker's current deal is not due to expire until 2021.

However, the former Chelsea player's outstanding form since arriving from Wolfsburg for a then club-record £55m has prompted City to extend De Bruyne's stay at Etihad Stadium.

It is anticipated De Bruyne's new deal will keep him at the club until 2024.

De Bruyne, who joined Chelsea in 2012 from Genk but made only three first-team appearances before leaving for Wolfsburg in 2014, has been outstanding in City's quest for all four trophies this season.

In the Premier League alone he has scored six goals and got 10 assists, with the latter figure being matched only by City team-mate Leroy Sane.

De Bruyne's form has led to him being made odds-on favourite to be named PFA Player of the Year this season.

If Sanchez had joined at £400k a week, De Bruyne wouldn't be signing this without parity. Good call City.

People keep talking about hazard and the threat he poses England in the world cup, de bruyne is the player I'm most worried about, can't see our midfield getting near him or the defence dealing with his passes. Players like hazard will just make him more deadly

Best midfielder in the world for the last couple of years, and will be for the next 6. Probably worth £175m or more in today’s daft market.

Cracking player to watch, and has his feet on the ground too.

Why offer a player stupid money when he's not even started a game for your club?

Surely it's better to reward players who have proved themselves.

De Bruyne or Sanchez? Simple really. Keep what you've got. De Bruyne is the best midfielder in the Premier League this year. Sanchez is over priced. Simple really.

Kevin De Bruyne has been City's best player this season, a joy to watch for any football fan and a major reason why they look likely to win the PL. Smart move to extend his contract.

This will be a big boost if it goes through as KdB is emerging as one of the best players in the world. Despite all the negative comment about City, they are a well run club and have been renewing contracts over recent months and identifying long term replacements for key players. This is in contrast to Arsenal (let contracts run down) and United who have just created a massive pay spiral

Zinchenko - great against Newcastle.
Foden - huge praise, but sadly injured.
Diaz - some great performances.

Also, look at the buy-back clause we got with Iheanacho, just in case he one day realises his potential.

Spot on.

Manyoo trying to extend De Gea's contract. Considering he is the only player in that squad you could argue to be in the top 3 in his position in the world, if Sanchez is £400k/wk, then he must be £600k/wk.

Great player for sure. Also from a personal point of view, my own team AFC could learn something from this. City have worked on a new contract for DeBruyne even though the current one doesn’t expire for another 3 years. This is the way to be professional when millions of pounds are involved.
