Manchester City vs Swansea, 2017 Premier League: Players to Watch

After a massive 4-0 win against West Ham United, Manchester City will return home to the Etihad to face relegation fighters Swansea City. While the Swans remain in 17th place, new manager Paul Clement has led the Welsh club to two consecutive wins for the first time all season, including a 3-2 upset over Liverpool two weeks ago.

However, City look strong with the new addition of Gabriel Jesus, and the Citizens seem resurrected in the Premier League title race. The match promises to be high scoring, since both teams are prone to score AND concede plenty of goals.

Here are a few players who could make an impact on this game.

Alfie Mawson

After being recalled from a loan deal with Barnsley, English defender Alfie Mawson has added plenty of security to a Swansea defense which has only kept three clean sheets this season. Mawson also contributes to the attack, with two goals for the Swans so far.

Mawson is especially talented in the air, winning 2.9 aerial duels a game this season. If Swansea want to put up a fight, then Mawson needs to dominate the air and prevent City from charging into the box.

Willy Caballero

After the surprising decision from Pep Guardiola to bench the struggling Claudio Bravo, Willy Caballero is expected to start again this weekend, looking to give City a second consecutive clean sheet.

The clean sheet against West Ham was a bit deceiving, because the Argentine wasn’t tested in between the sticks. His lone save came in the fourth minute with a weak, deflected shot by Michail Antonio.

Expect a few more opportunities for Willy to prove if he can handle the starting spot as goalie.

Gylfi Sigurdsson

This attacking midfielder has been Swansea’s star player for a while, and he continued to show his talents with an impressive Euro 2016 campaign with Iceland. He has seven goals and seven assists this season, and his impressive record has given Swansea a chance to avoid impending relegation.

As the Swans' top chance creator, Sigurdsson can contribute as a passer, a scorer and a free kick taker. Swansea will need a top tier performance from their star man if they want to win away from home.

Gabriel Jesus

The Brazilian striker has taken the football world by storm with his recent debut with Manchester City. In his first Premier League start against West Ham, he scored and assisted, and his ability to create chances and score is unprecedented for a teenager.

Jesus still has a lot to prove, though. He could become a game-changer and boost City's title chances, but he's still 19 years old and could go through periods of struggle when he'll be under pressure to perform.

At the Etihad, however, look for Jesus to capitalize against a weak Swansea defense and continue to make his mark in impressive fashion.
