West Brom set price for Manchester City target Jonny Evans - Report

It is clear now that Manchester City are heavily interested in signing West Browmich Albion captain Jonny Evans this summer, and the club even made a bid of £18 million that was rejected earlier this week.

And now they know exactly how much West Brom want for Evans. According to Paul Joyce of The Times, Albion have set Evans’ price at £30 million.

West Brom manager Tony Pulis spoke to the press on Friday and he admitted that an offer has come in for Evans, but he wants the player to stay and he won’t be sold until the right bid is made.

“It would need to be a very good offer. If that offer came in then we would sit down and talk to Jonny.

"When it's Man City or one of the top four or five clubs, it's very, very difficult then because it affects the player because they have the chance to better themselves.

"We don't want to stop him from doing something he wants to do. We don't want to have a player that stays at the football club and is disappointed.

"He's been in this position before here and he understands the situation, until all parties agree then he won't go anywhere. He has been made club captain and he wants to get on with his football."

As we discussed on this blog, signing Jonny Evans makes a lot of sense for City for several reasons. But the price is now set at £30 million, and that is just too much. It’s more than City want to pay and way more than what Evans is worth. Sure, “this is the market” and stuff, but surely there are cheaper alternatives (Ben Gibson, maybe?) to Evans.

Please don’t overpay, City. Please.
