As we do before every match here at Bitter and Blue, we give the fans an opportunity to participate in a contest and choose their lineup for the next Manchester City game. We did the same for Wednesday’s League Cup debut against West Bromwich Albion, and your selection was very smart.

All of you understood that this is a League Cup match and Pep Guardiola is likely to rotate his squad, so you’ve chosen a very different team to the strongest possible lineup. Players like Éderson Moraes, Kyle Walker, John Stones, Fernandinho, Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Sergio Agüero had the least number of votes, and you’ve chosen the youngsters and reserves to face the Baggies.

The only normal starters you’ve picked are Benjamin Mendy and Gabriel Jesus, and you want Ilkay Gundogan to have his first start of the season in the center of midfield. Phil Foden and Brahim Díaz came very close to replacing Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph, but they came just short. Below is your full selection, and thank you so much for playing along with us!

Bitter and Blue XI (4-3-3):

Bravo; Danilo, Adarabioyo, Mangala, Mendy; Gundogan, Bernardo, Delph; Sterling, Jesus, Sané
