Ben Davies: Kane’s rise at Tottenham similar to Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale left Tottenham Hotspur for Real Madrid well before Harry Kane ascended to become one of the best strikers in Europe. However, ahead of Bale’s return to the UK to face his old club in the Champions League, there are bound to be comparisons between the two superstars, both of whom got their breakthrough in north London.

Few people are probably more qualified to talk about Bale and Kane than Ben Davies, who regularly plays with both of them: Kane with Spurs and Bale on international duty with Wales. Davies recently spoke about both in comments to the media reported by the Evening Standard.

“They’re totally different players - Harry’s an out-and-out goalscorer and Gaz is a bit of a winger but in terms of development it’s relatively similar.

“Harry’s all about goals and if he keeps getting the goals like he does then people have to stand up and take notice. For us as a team, to have somebody like him up top - knowing that if we get a chance then nine times out of 10 it ends up in the back of net - is an amazing feeling. When you put the ball in for somebody like H up top and you can see the goals he’s getting, it makes it easy for you.”

Davies went on to say that the forthcoming clash between Spurs and Madrid may come up between himself and Bale this week while the Wales team prepares for the final two World Cup qualifiers, but it’s unlikely to be a point of contention. “For us it’s all about the Wales games but I’m sure we’ll have a chat about it,” he said.

Both Spurs and Kane are on a roll right now, with Tottenham unbeaten in all competitions in the month of September. Kane has scored 13 goals for Spurs and England in that same period, a feat equalled only by Lionel Messi (March 2012) and Cristiano Ronaldo (October 2010). The match-up between Spurs and Madrid on October 17 at Wembley Stadium the Bernabeu will no doubt make it the most highly anticipated fixture of that series.
