Denmark and Montenegro are both tied with 16 points, three behind Poland in their World Cup qualifying group, which makes today’s match somewhat of a play-in game. Technically, the winner could finish top, but most likely if there’s a winner they’ll come second behind the Poles, sending them to the 2nd place playoffs. It’ll get even more complicated if they draw. But it’s still a super important game for Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen and Denmark.

Which is why it was so amazing that Eriksen just did this.

My word, Christian. Take a bow!

That’s Eriksen scoring, with the outside of his boot, from a long ways away from goal, with three Montenegro players around him. It’s an absolutely astounding bit of individual skill, and continues Eriksen’s scintillating run of form for Denmark in this cycle.

Honest question, has there been a single player who has been more important to his international team’s World Cup qualification hopes than Christian Eriksen? Because if there has, I can’t think of who it is.
