Tottenham team news: Trippier out, Wanyama, Son available for selection against Newcastle

There’s a bit of good news for a squad beset by injuries in the preseason.

While the headlines have been dominated by the Danny Rose interview fiasco, there’s a bit of good news this morning as we head into Sunday’s Premier League opener at Newcastle United. Tottenham released team news via its social media channels on Friday morning. While Kieran Trippier will miss the match with an ankle injury, Victor Wanyama and Son Heung-Min are both back and are ready for selection.

That’s good news for Spurs’ lineup on Sunday. Wanyama returning potentially solves the right back conundrum for this week: if he’s available to start, Eric Dier could potentially move to right back until Trippier is ready to return to the team. However, Poch tends to not rush back his players returning from injury, so there’s still a decent chance that we could see Dier in a back three and Moussa Sissoko deputizing at right back, however. It depends on what Mauricio Pochettino wants to do.

No change in status otherwise: Erik Lamela and Danny Rose aren’t expected back for a while, and Georges-N’Koudou remains out with a foot issue.
