The sale of Kevin Wimmer was confirmed on Twitter by Tottenham Hotspur.

Wimmer departs having made 15 Premier League appearances for Spurs, but he saw action in only 5 such matches last season. With Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, and Eric Dier already firmly ahead of Wimmer on the depth chart, the signing of Davinson Sanchez and rumored upcoming signing of Juan Foyth made it clear that Wimmer would not see much of the pitch this season.

The sale of Wimmer has been rumored for some time, and he was reportedly saying goodbye to team personnel after the match against Burnley on Sunday. Stoke City’s Twitter account made note of the fee and the contract length:

It’s hard to know how much of the fee Spurs will be getting up front, but hopefully those funds can go towards additional signings before the close of the transfer window on Thursday, August 31st at 6:00pm ET. In the meantime, would someone please check in on Son Heung-Min?
