More rumors! The latest comes from Matt Law, writing for the Independent and suggests that Tottenham Hotspur might be moving on to other midfield targets, specifically Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes.

Barcelona has reportedly made Gomes available for a season-long loan, which has apparently piqued the interest of both Spurs and West Ham. Why, I’m not sure, because Gomes certainly hasn’t been especially great, either at Barca or at his former club, Valencia.

But to be fair, Gomes was once considered one of the best prospects in Europe, and not hacking it at Barcelona isn’t exactly a crime. He also played well for Portugal and helped them win the Euros last summer, and that’s nothing to scoff at.

Now 24, Gomes possibly could still improve, but he’s nearing his peak years and really hasn’t shown all that much. The one advantage that he does have is that he is emphatically not Ross Barkley, but when one of your transfer targets comes down to a battle between your club and West Ham you might want to start rethinking your transfer strategy.
