Tottenham Hotspur got two goals from Harry Kane, his 100th and 101st of his Tottenham career as they blitzed Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park. Christian Eriksen also poked home a third goal as Spurs righted the ship after a disappointing draw to Burnley two weeks ago.

Tottenham’s starting lineup featured the full Premier League debut from their new signing Davinson Sanchez, who started in the center of a back three formation, with Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen flanking him. Mauricio Pochettino clearly had an eye on Wednesday’s Champions League match against Dortmund, as Mousa Dembele was rested, with Moussa Sissoko moving into the pivot beside Eric Dier. Son Heung-Min and new signing Fernando Llorente also started on the bench.

The first half started out a bit slow but quickly turned into one way traffic for Tottenham. Even so, Everton got the first chance of the match after a Cuco Martina cross found Sandro, who poked the ball wide of the net.

Moussa Sissoko looked very good in the pivot in the first half, making progressive runs up the middle from deep positions and looking threatening. He had a shot blocked in the 16th minute, and Kane’s eventual second chance ball couldn’t find the net either.

But this match is in the month of September, and that means it’s okay for Kane to score. Harry got his 100th career goal for Tottenham after he had a floated ball from deep find the corner of the net past Jordan Pickford. It was pretty obviously intended to be a cross, but whatever -- a goal’s a goal.

From there it was all Spurs as they looked increasingly threatening and had most of the ball. Christian Eriksen doubled Spurs’ lead three minutes before halftime. Sissoko had a cross from the right find Ben Davies, whose initial shot was parried away by Pickford. Eriksen was there to poke home the rebound to put Spurs up 2-0

Kane nearly had a brace before halftime, but he somehow managed to put a wide-open shot in the box on the wrong side of the post. Spurs took a dominant performance into halftime, leading by two goals.

Everton’s anemic first half resulted in a double substitution at halftime as Dominc Calvert-Lewin and Tom Davis came in for Sandro Ramirez and Davy Klaassen. It didn’t matter much. Ben Davies put in a very nice cross and found a wide-open Harry Kane in the box who poked home his second goal of the game to put Spurs up 3-0, just one minute into the second half.

A few minutes later, Kane found a streaking Eriksen, whose shot forced an outstanding acrobatic save from Pickford to prevent a 4-0 scoreline. Kane followed up with a close-range effort that was again saved by Pickford as Spurs continued to pile on the pressure.

After that, Spurs eased up on the throttle but still managed to keep much of the ball. Hugo Lloris nearly gifted a goal to Everton after his pass went straight to the feet of Idrissa Gueye, but otherwise Everton never really looked like scoring.

Strangely, Pochettino didn’t make his first substitution until the 71st minute, and it was Mousa Dembele for Christian Eriksen. Sissoko eventually tweaked his ankle and was subbed off for Harry Winks. Son Heung-Min eventually came on for Kane.

Spurs were content to see off the remainder of the match and easily took the three points. The final score was 3-0.

Reactions:

• That was a really nice overall match from Spurs. Everton are not an easy team to break down, but Tottenham did it easily, and often.
• I’ve bagged on Moussa Sissoko a lot on this site, but this was one of, if not the, best matches I’ve seen him play in a Spurs shirt. He was making good runs from deep, his crossing was decent, and his passing was decent. His touch still isn’t fantastic and he had a few mistimed offside runs, but he was good today. And he was in the pivot!
• Davinson Sanchez looks like the real deal. He was tidy with the ball, solid defensively, and looked like he partnered well with Toby and Jan. An excellent debut.
• Speaking of, Jan Vertonghen was absolutely outstanding today.
• The August curse is real and I’m so sorry I didn’t believe in it. Kane’s gonna score 30 goals this year.
• Pochettino’s substitutions puzzled me. Winks for Sissoko I get, but why Dembele and Son with a midweek match? Why no debut for Llorente? I am sad.
• I was quite impressed with the play of Ben Davies today as well, who looked progressive (if not fast) up the left flank. Christian Eriksen was brilliant, as ever.
• If this is a taste of things to come with a back three formation, I’m going to be a very happy Spurs fan this season. Tottenham made an away match to Everton look downright easy.
• Bring on Dortmund.
