Tottenham Hotspur’s young midfielder Harry Winks has been either missing from the match day squad or on the bench for the past couple of weeks. News from the club had hinted that he had tweaked his ankle and was trying to rehabilitate. It sounds like that recovery isn’t going well.

Spurs released team news ahead of Saturday’s match against Everton and Winks’ condition has been downgraded. He is now set to miss out on the match entirely along with Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose.

The scuttlebutt was that Winksy was trying to play through a minor injury, so this is a setback for him, especially since he had made the bench a couple of times the past few matches. Mauricio Pochettino said that he hoped Winks could start training again next week.

Thankfully, Victor Wanyama is back and fully healthy, and that has alleviated some of the concerns surrounding Tottenham’s midfield. So long as Alderweireld is out, we’re likely to continue to see the 4-2-3-1 that Pochettino has implemented for much of the season, with some combination of Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama, and Mousa Dembele in the central midfield pivot.
