Tottenham jet to Barcelona for mid-season training camp

After Tottenham Hotspur’s 4-0 thrashing of Everton, manager Mauricio Pochettino took his team and jetted off for a little mid-season sun. For the third straight January, Pochettino is taking Harry Kane and the rest of the Tottenham Hotspur squad to Barcelona for a mid-season training camp, where they will train, see the sights, bond as a team, and take in a little sun.

For Pochettino, this trip is an important part of his training regimen at Spurs in a city that he spent time in as both a player and a young manager and that he loves deeply.

“Always every season I think it is important to stay all together for a few days in a different environment. It’s team building. With the new players it is always fantastic to spend 24 hours together doing things.

”Different things that we may not do here in London and always these situations are so important for the players, for the staff; for everyone.”

Professional athletes aren’t machines, and with the Premier League not having any sort of a winter break it’s easy to get caught up in the grind of a long season. The past couple of seasons have seen videos emerge on players’ various social media accounts of them hanging out together, spending time bonding as a team. I expect we’ll see something similar this year as well, so check those Instagram stories the next couple of days.

While the training doesn’t stop — Spurs travel to Southampton this coming Sunday — the trip to Spain does shake things up a little bit, and hopefully allow the players to let their hair down for a couple of days.

As for Pochettino, he’s already been spotted back in a football stadium. A Spanish fan caught the gaffer in the stands at Sunday’s 1-1 draw between Poch’s former club Espaynol and Athletic at the RCDE Stadium.

You’d think he could afford slightly better seats...
