Chelsea are set to make moves for two quality strikers as Blues owner Roman Abramovich prepares to welcome back former boss Jose Mourinho according to the Daily Mail.

The Stamford Bridge side have long been linked with interest in Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao, a deal that is apparently looking increasingly likely, and the West London side are also looking to land £20m rated German international Mario Gomez.

The 27 year old Bayern Munich man is set to leave the Allianz Arena having already found himself warming the bench for much of the current campaign, with summer signing Mario Mandzukic taking his spot, and with incoming boss Pep Guardiola apparently looking to bring in another big name striker.

Gomez finished last season as Bayern Munich’s top scorer with a massive 40 goal haul in all competitions but an injury ruled him out of much of the current campaign and has made just eight Bundesliga starts all season, with another nine appearances coming from the bench.

Chelsea are said to believe they have won the £46m race to sign Falcao, who has been in sparkling form since his move to Spain two seasons ago, having scored goals for fun with Jose Mourinho’s former side FC Porto.

If Mourinho is to return to Chelsea he will certainly be keen to put his stamp on the squad he inherits from interim boss Rafa Benitez, and this may well lead to the Portuguese boss looking to offload Fernando Torres, which would appear to be a fairly likely occurrence if Abramovich is indeed happy to invest large sums to sign Falcao and Gomez.

Mourinho’s departure from the Bernabeu does seem to growing more and more likely given that Real Madrid have a mountain to climb just to reach the Champions League final having been thrashed 4-1 away in Dortmund. This would leave the embattled boss with just the chance of a Copa del Rey triumph to show from the season, having captured the La Liga title last term only to see Barcelona romp to what seems an inevitable return to power.

A number of senior Real Madrid players are said to have fallen out with Mourinho and this coupled with a growing section of the club’s support being against his continued presence at the club would appear to suggest that his Spanish adventure is drawing to it’s conclusion.

Moves to sign two new high-profile forwards may also leave question marks over the future of young Belgian powerhouse Romelu Lukaku, who may not be all that keen to return from a successful loan spell at West Brom only to sit on the Chelsea bench.
