Following former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand’s three match ban for a Twitter related incident, Wenger has spoken on Arsenal‘s official site about his concerns over the use of Twitter in football.

With the growing use of social media it is becoming harder and harder to keep anything a secret, and the French boss is well aware that Twitter is one of the main culprits.

“We are concerned as well about statements on Twitter, things going out of the club that should not go out,” Wenger said.

“It’s important to keep that under control. In the modern world, it’s very difficult but we try.”

Footballers are not only celebrities in their own rights, but are often seen as role models for the younger generations as well. For this reason the FA has to crack down on incidents such as Rio Ferdinand’s, showing players that it is not acceptable to go public with every single thought that pops into their head.

Arsenal host Burnley in the Premier League this weekend, with Wenger hoping to continue a recent run of wins. The visitors are definite relegation candidates so nothing less than a win will be acceptable for the Gunners.
