Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has made contact with Sergio Ramos with a view to potentially signing the Real Madrid defender, according to The Express.

Ramos has been with Real since 2005 and he has become a club legend, winning three La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys and last season’s Champions League.

The 28-year-old is said to be keen to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, but he has apparently been angered in recent days after being offered a new contract which includes a pay-cut.

Ramos’ current deal still has more than two years left to run on it.

Nevertheless, Mourinho has reportedly spoken to Ramos to tell him that he has a place at Chelsea should his contract fall-out force him to leave Real.

Mourinho and Ramos worked together at Real between 2010 and 2013.

Ramos would be an excellent addition to Chelsea’s squad.

The Blues have a very strong defence – they have kept seven clean sheets in 16 Premier League games this season.

However, they are heavily reliant on Gary Cahill and John Terry.

Terry is 34 years old, so a replacement will be required very soon.

There is no doubt that Ramos is a top class defender – he has 124 senior international caps.

However, one concern is his disciplinary record – he has been sent off 19 times during his career.
