The 26-year-old suffered a knee ligament tear during the Sky Blues’ victory over Everton earlier this month, and has been ruled out for up to six weeks. However, his manager has revealed that he could be back in time for the two key clashes and definitely returning in time for the Citizens’ Champions League tie with Barcelona.

The match against Chelsea is especially important for City’s chances of winning the Premier League title. They will probably need to at least avoid defeat in it if they want a chance of finishing in first at the end of this campaign.

“Sergio has a torn ligament and I think it will be long before that tie, probably in the first weeks of January, that he will play,” Pellegrini told reporters.

Having Aguero available would be a huge boost for the team, especially against a Blues side which has only lost once so far this season. Pellegrini’s side are currently three points behind the London club.
