Arsene Wenger has revealed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be fit for Arsenal’s clash with Liverpool this weekend, as reported by the Daily Star.

The 21-year-old has been absent from training this week, a groin strain suffered against Newcastle United restricting him to the sidelines.

Wenger is hopeful that the former Southampton man will be fit for the trip to Anfield however, but insists that he won’t know until the day before the game.

“We hope that Oxlade-Chamberlain will be fit,” said Wenger.

“We’ll see that on Saturday.

“He’s not in training at the moment.”

Both teams are badly in need of a win, with Arsenal struggling down in sixth place, while Liverpool are languishing in ninth.

The Gunners are coming off the back of a dominant 4-1 win over Newcastle, while the Reds’ last Premier League match was a disappointing 3-0 loss at the hands of Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United.

With the absence of Theo Walcott this season, Oxlade-Chamberlain has played a major role for Wenger’s side. He has been involved in every single game for the North London club in some form or another, and will be looking to keep that record going on Sunday.

Walcott is also in contention for a return in the trip to Anfield, which could see his fellow Englishman’s opportunities in the first team dwindle.

Wenger will be glad to have yet another selection headache however, with injuries once again hampering Arsenal’s season.
