Arsene Wenger suggests time is running out for Theo Walcott to save Arsenal future

Arsene Wenger has admitted that Theo Walcott faces an uncertain future at Arsenal.

The England forward has started only three of Arsenal’s last 15 games in all competitions, and none of their last six as Alex Iwobi and Danny Welbeck have earned their picks ahead of him.

Wenger has insisted that Walcott is determined to come through his “bad spell”, but suggested that he only has until the end of the season to prove that he has a future at the Emirates Stadium.

Asked if Walcott could leave in the summer, Wenger told Sky Sports: “I don’t know yet.

“I’m not in transfer mode at the moment, but I think he has gone through a bad spell. He has responded very well, because he said: ‘Okay, I will work harder and more.’

“Even when he comes on now, you see he is motivated and focused. Let’s see how well he finishes the season now.”

Walcott’s lack of action for the Gunners of late may have jeopardised his chances of making England’s squad for Euro 2016 this summer, with Roy Hodgson blessed with attacking options.

The 27-year-old has averaged less than 15 Premier League starts in his 10 seasons at Arsenal, and will have to play more regularly if he is to reach the potential that he showed early in his career.

He has made 342 appearances for Arsenal and only has two FA Cup wins to show for it. He has scored 85 goals, although only five this season, and that is why he finds himself on the bench.
