Arsenal boss reveals exact number of players he intends to sign this summer

Could Arsene Wenger be scouring the globe to sign new players for his roster next season? It certainly looks that way based on recent comments from the Arsenal boss.

After falling out of Premier League title contention in mid-April and ultimately losing the title to Leicester City several weeks ago, Wenger admitted that he needs to strengthen his squad – but intends to do so while retaining the core of his team. He also indicated that he wants to add three players at least to the squad this summer.

‘We want to keep the squad stable over the summer while strengthening where possible,’ Wenger said, per the Metro.

‘You want the group to be stimulated and to believe that we have improved the quality.

‘I must say, we want to combine technical stability with players that we know want to play and know our game.

‘Maybe bring in three players for example. That’s the right level for me.’

The Arsenal manager has gained a reputation for being thrifty with his spending, buying just two players for the first-team during the 2015-16 season: Goalkeeper Petr Cech and midfielder Mohamed Elneny.

Wenger announced the impending release of midfield veterans Mathieu Flamini, Tomas Rosichy and Mikel Arteta yesterday – so it should be assumed that at least one of the summer signings should be a midfielder. Then again, Arsene Wenger has surprised people so often that he could very well do so again.

The fan wish-list for Wenger includes a striker to replace Olivier Giroud, a centre-back to replace Laurent Koscielny and a midfielder to replace the departing veterans.
