Manchester United believe they have best chance yet of signing £85million star

Can United finally bring him in?

Manchester United are reportedly more confident than ever of luring Gareth Bale away from Real Madrid, though the transfer does face one potential snag.

According to the Daily Mirror, the Red Devils have caught wind that Real could sell Bale for around £85million next summer, though they continue to chase United goalkeeper David de Gea.

Real notably came close to signing the Spain international back in 2015, only to miss the transfer deadline, according to BBC Sport.

De Gea now has a contract at Old Trafford running until 2019, but that could all go out of the window if the club step up their interest in Bale at the end of this season.

The Wales international is said to be going through a difficult time at the Bernabeu just now, with the Mirror stating that his poor relationship with the club’s fans could force him out.

ESPN recently claimed United were ready to go back in for Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann next summer, so it’s clear a top class attacking player is in Jose Mourinho’s sights.

United are said to fear Real’s interest in De Gea, which has slightly dampened their recent optimism of finally securing a deal for Bale.

Gareth Bale – a long-term United target

Bale has been linked with United on a number of occasions in recent years and could be another ideal purchase for the club in that area of the pitch.

The 28-year-old hasn’t quite found his best form in a Real Madrid shirt since his move from Tottenham back in 2013, but he was almost unplayable in the Premier League in his final season with Spurs.

United actually first tried to sign Bale that summer, with former Reds boss David Moyes telling BBC 5 Live this week, via Four Four Two: ‘I tried to convince them but we couldn’t do so. We offered more money to Tottenham (than Real Madrid for Bale) at that time.’
