Will City agree to this?

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne is looking for a new contract with a considerable pay rise, according to latest reports.

The Belgian midfielder has been one of the stand-out performers of the season so far, and his agent has admitted he is looking to get him a pay-packet near the level of Paris Saint-Germain duo Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

De Bruyne currently earns a basic £6million a year, though the Daily Telegraph claim that comes up to close to £16m with bonuses included.

The report also claims the 26-year-old could earn closer to Neymar’s eye-watering £32m a year after quotes from his agent Patrick De Koster, who is planning talks with Etihad Stadium officials.

‘In the coming months, I’ll meet with City to figure out how to improve and extend his contract,’ De Koster told Radio CRC, according to the Telegraph.

‘His salary? I cannot say. But if you think what Neymar and Mbappe are being paid, you can picture it…’

De Bruyne has become a key member of Pep Guardiola’s City side, contributing two goals and seven assists so far this season, including a crucial winning goal against his former side Chelsea in their recent meeting at Stamford Bridge.

De Koster admitted, however, that his client is not yet in the same bracket as the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in terms of challenging for big individual honours such as the Ballon d’Or.

‘He can’t expect to win the Ballon d’Or at the moment, he’s still far from footballers like Messi and CR7,’ De Koster added.

‘Everything will depend on how much he can achieve with City, there’s still a big difference now.’
