And while Ibrahimovic was not initially offered a new contract at Old Trafford, he did end up renewing for another year with United back in August, according to Sky Sports.

Still, the veteran forward is yet to feature for the Red Devils so far this term, leaving Jose Mourinho relying on the fine form of summer signing Romelu Lukaku up front.

Ibrahimovic would provide a reliable backup plan for United upon his return, and Cole has told MUTV that the 36-year-old is optimistic about returning by December or January.

‘I had a chat with Zlatan when he was in the gym the other day. I think he is looking forward to coming back, most probably in December or January time,’ Cole was quoted in the Metro.

‘I think he will definitely bring something to the football team, as we already know.

‘After last season, he was fantastic. It will be nice to see him back when he returns.’

Ibrahimovic settled quickly in England last year, scoring 28 goals in all competitions to finish as United’s top scorer despite missing the end of the campaign.
