Jose Mourinho desperate to land top Man Utd target, willing to offer £290k-a-week contract

With a potential lack of depth and real quality in midfield moving forward, it’s no real surprise that Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly looking for reinforcements in that department.

Michael Carrick continues to edge closer to the end of his playing career, Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera have contracts that expire at the end of the season with no renewal yet signed, while in turn there aren’t too many options behind the likes of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.

For a club like Man Utd who look to compete on various fronts every year, that isn’t enough. In turn, it’s claimed by Don Balon, as re-reported by The Express, that they’ve set their sights on Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro.

Further, Mourinho is said to be so keen to land the Brazilian international, that the 25-year-old could be offered a deal which included a similar way packet to that of Paul Pogba, believed to be around £290,000-a-week, if he opts to move to Old Trafford.

Casemiro joined Madrid in 2012, but has only really established himself in the squad over the last two seasons after returning from a useful loan spell with Porto.

He’s made 77 appearances in all competitions over the last two years, which is an indication of how important he’s considered to be by Zinedine Zidane, helping the club win a La Liga title, two Champions League trophies, two UEFA Super Cups and a FIFA Club World Cup.

In turn, Madrid will surely be in no rush to let him go, and with a contract in place until 2021, they’re in a strong position to keep him while Don Balon add that the Brazilian ace himself has no desire to leave. It’s no real surprise to hear that as Zidane has shown a lot of faith in him, and things have gone pretty well for him in the Spanish capital so far.
