Mourinho has told Madrid the deal could be on!

Jose Mourinho could be ready to anger Manchester United fans by selling an incredibly popular figure at the club in a shock transfer agreement with Real Madrid.

According to Diario Gol, United boss Mourinho is willing to let Marcus Rashford move to the Bernabeu if he can land Spanish starlet Marco Asensio in return.

The report claims the Portuguese tactician is a huge fan of the 21-year-old, who has enjoyed a breakthrough year for club and country to become regarded as one of European football’s next big talents.

Don Balon recently reported, however, that Real are also keen on England international Rashford, who is another exciting prospect making waves on the big stage with a series of eye-catching performances for United in the Premier League and Champions League.

Don Balon’s recent report cited that Cristiano Ronaldo would like to see Rashford at Real, and Mourinho’s response seems to be that a deal could be done.

Diario Gol say the former Madrid manager has told Florentino Perez that he’s open to negotiating a swap deal involving Asensio, as he is ‘in love’ with the young attacker.

While it is hard to believe Mourinho would be willing to sacrifice as exciting a talent as Rashford, it is clear that Asensio should have a very promising future in the game.

Mourinho to risk United fan wrath with Rashford transfer?

Still, United fans may struggle to forgive the Portuguese if he lets one of their homegrown players leave Old Trafford, with the Red Devils enjoying a proud tradition of bringing through local talent.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s best sides were built around the likes of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and the Neville brothers, who all came through their academy at around the same time before stepping up into the first-team.

Rashford seems to have similar potential to become a legend at the club, and fans this week noticed his captaincy potential as he took a moment to encourage struggling defender Victor Lindelof during the League Cup win at Swansea City.

Mourinho has gained a reputation for favouring big-name signings over promoting youth, but that’s not necessarily the kind of strategy that will go down as well at United as it might have at clubs like Chelsea and Real Madrid.
