Manchester City and Sergio Aguero at odds over his future as striker reveals transfer plan

Manchester City and Sergio Aguero seem to be at odds over the striker’s future after he dropped a transfer bombshell over his future plans.

The Argentina international, who recently became City’s all-time leading goalscorer, has been quoted as saying he plans to return to his first club Independiente at the end of next season.

This could be a big blow for City, despite ongoing links with Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez, who could be an ideal replacement for his fellow South American up front.

The Daily Mirror claim City believe Aguero is committed to City until 2020, though the player himself has contradicted that by saying it’s always been his plan to leave earlier than that.

‘It came out that Milan and Real Madrid wanted me and – I don’t know where I read it – but they said, “They just spoiled Independiente’s dream.” But the idea was always to go back to Independiente when my contract with City runs out in 2019,’ Aguero is quoted in the Mirror.

‘I have an option to extend one more year with City where it’s the priority but it’s always an option.

‘The idea is to go back. Now, I’m doing very well and hopefully we can win the cup [title], but it’s not easy.’

Aguero – a Manchester City legend

Aguero has been one of the most lethal forwards in Europe during his six years with City, and he became an instant legend with the club on the final day of his first season.

With time ticking away against Queens Park Rangers, City were just seconds away from missing out on the Premier League title to inner-city rivals Manchester United, before Aguero’s stoppage time winner saw them edge it on goal difference.

Still, it remains to be seen if he fits in with this new-look City side, with Pep Guardiola seemingly planning for life without the 29-year-old by targeting Sanchez next season (per the Mirror‘s report) and also making youngster Gabriel Jesus a key part of his side.
