Eden Hazard sends clear message to Chelsea top brass over failed transfer policy

Chelsea forward Eden Hazard has taken a sly dig at the club’s transfer business by naming one of their cast-offs as the best player currently playing in the Premier League.

Kevin De Bruyne left Chelsea for Wolfsburg for just £18million back in 2014 (fee per the Guardian), and is now starring for the Blues’ rivals Manchester City as they look major favourites for this year’s title.

De Bruyne, 26, has three goals and nine assists so far this season, and recently scored City’s winner against Chelsea in a title-race six-pointer at Stamford Bridge.

Hazard clearly feels his club have let a gem of a talent go, as he heaped huge praise on his fellow Belgian for the way he’s playing this season.

‘Kevin is definitely the best player in the Premier League,’ Hazard is quoted in the Metro.

‘He plays with a good team but that’s also thanks to him that they play so well.’

With Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku also proving a key figure for one of Chelsea’s rivals this season, Hazard’s words certainly serve as a reminder that they could do with better nurturing their young talent and giving them more opportunities before letting them go.

Highly-rated prospects such as Nathan Ake and Nathaniel Chalobah were also allowed to leave Chelsea during the summer, with the west Londoners long preferring to spend big in the transfer market over trusting their academy.
