Antonio Conte orders Chelsea to seal £88million striker transfer in January to revive hopes of catching Manchester City

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has reportedly instructed his board to replace Diego Costa in this January’s transfer window by bidding for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi.

The Blues signed Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid in the summer but could do with more up front after a difficult start to the season, particularly with shock reports from Sport Witness that Paris Saint-Germain have been in touch about signing the Spaniard.

Icardi has shone for Inter this season, scoring 11 goals in just 12 Serie A matches to establish himself as one of Europe’s deadliest finishers.

The Argentina international is also among the best finishers on Football Manager 2018, being one of few players in the game with a ’20’ for finishing.

Gol Digital claim Conte is eager to bring Icardi to Stamford Bridge and would be willing to pay as much as £88million for this rather ambitious transfer.

Chelsea are currently nine points behind Manchester City in the race for the title and there’s no doubt a marquee signing like Icardi could significantly improve the mood around Stamford Bridge right now.
