Revenge for Mesut Ozil? Arsenal linked with shock transfer raid for three Manchester United stars, including ideal Alexis Sanchez replacement

Could we be about to see a surprise amount of movement between rivals Arsenal and Manchester United in upcoming transfer windows? Recent speculation suggests so.

While the two clubs don’t exactly sell to each other too often, we have seen some big names move between the Emirates Stadium and Old Trafford in the last few years, most notably Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck – and let’s not forget the legendary Mikael Silvestre, who was so much worse for Arsenal he was for United that he must have been a Fergie spy.

Anyway, prepare for more drama between these two great clubs, with the ongoing saga over Mesut Ozil’s future seeing him linked fairly strongly with a reunion with Jose Mourinho at United.

The Daily Mirror recently claimed the Germany international is confident of linking up with the Red Devils as he nears the end of his contract, in what could be the most controversial free transfer since Sol Campbell moved across north London from Tottenham to Arsenal in 2001.

With that in mind, is Arsene Wenger eyeing up some revenge? Here’s a look at three United first-teamers reportedly in his sights at the moment…

Anthony Martial

According to another report from the Mirror, Anthony Martial is on Arsenal’s radar as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez (whom the Mirror also link with a free transfer to Manchester City next summer).

In fairness, Arsenal could do a lot worse than bring in the talented young Frenchman, who has not been a regular for Mourinho’s side this season despite consistently impressing when brought on off the bench.

Martial, 21, has long been regarded as one of the top young talents in Europe and has a bit of Thierry Henry about him. Make it happen, Arsenal.

Luke Shaw

According to the Daily Telegraph, Arsenal are also among the clubs looking into signing out-of-favour United left-back Luke Shaw, along with Chelsea and Manchester City.

While Sead Kolasinac has looked a great signing at left-back this season, Shaw could be another tempting option for Wenger as he looks for a long-term replacement for Nacho Monreal, who usually plays more centrally now anyway.

Shaw was considered a huge talent at previous club Southampton, and while it hasn’t worked out for him at Old Trafford, he could still get a second chance at a big club and looks worth the gamble if, as the Telegraph claim, he could move for just £20million.

Marouane Fellaini

Finally, Arsenal could make it a triple raid on United as they are also linked with a surprise move for contract rebel Marouane Fellaini in midfield.

The Daily Express claim the Gunners hope to snap up the Belgian on a free transfer next summer, and while he’d be no replacement for Ozil, he could offer something sorely lacking in their midfield right now.

A physical player with great work rate and fighting spirit, Fellaini would add leadership to an Arsenal side that have consistently under-achieved down the years.

How good could this potential transfer business be for Arsenal?
