Mesut Ozil may have given Arsenal fans a new reason to worry as he admits he occasionally keeps in touch with Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane as he heads towards being available on a free transfer.
The Germany international is yet to sign a new contract at the Emirates Stadium, with his current deal set to expire at the end of this season as speculation grows over his future.
The Daily Mirror have previously suggested he expects to join Manchester United as his next club, while a later report from the Mirror also linked Barcelona with a possible move.
Still, some of Ozil’s finest form of his career came at previous club Real Madrid so it may be that a return to the Bernabeu should not be entirely ruled out, despite a lack of rumours involving that particular club.
The 29-year-old has also heaped praise on Los Blancos manager Zidane, and admits he has some contact with the Frenchman.

‘The way he interpreted and directed his game has fascinated me and still fascinates me,’ Ozil told FootballMgzn, as quoted in the Mirror.
‘His technique and his creativity were outstanding. As a youth player I wanted to be like him.
‘When I got to Real Madrid and met him, my hands were sweating and I was nervous.
‘But Zidane was very kind and positive. We still have contact from time to time.’
While there’s no suggestion from Ozil’s comments that talks have taken place over a transfer back to Madrid, Zidane may be increasingly tempted to ask his mate about the possibility if his contract remains unsigned in a few months’ time.
