Manchester United star Paul Pogba has revealed a childhood admiration for Arsenal due to their strong French contingent at the time.
Speaking to Football Focus, the France international admitted he was a bit of a fan of the Gunners, though didn’t sound too keen to reveal the full extent of his support.
Arsenal used to boast legends such as Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Robert Pires in their ranks, with Arsene Wenger building one of the finest teams in Premier League history in the early 2000s.
Pogba is now set to take on Arsenal with United today, and gave this response when asked about following them in the past due to the French connection.
‘In France they were very big because there was a lot of French players,’ he said.

‘And I was like, I was quite a fan of Arsenal, you know, Thierry Henry, I was watching him.
‘I was a little fan yeah, not a crazy fan but I was watching a lot of Arsenal games. They’ve always been a great club.’
Arsenal are no longer the force they once were, though United have also gone through a bit of a rough spell since the retirement of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.
Today’s fixture might not carry the same significance it once did, but for Pogba it’s clearly a special game as he comes up against a team so well supported in his homeland.
