Deal agreed: Arsenal star to seal £44million January transfer as Gunners opt to avoid free transfer exit

Manchester City reportedly look set to seal the transfer of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in a £44million deal in the January transfer window, according to sources in Spain.

Despite the Daily Mirror‘s recent claims that PSG had overtaken City as the favourites for the Chile international, it now looks as though Pep Guardiola is confident he’s got his man.

This is according to Don Balon, who state that City have also seen off late interest from Real Madrid in Sanchez, with Arsenal keen to cash in on their star player as he heads towards the end of his contract.

Sanchez would be free to leave on a Bosman next summer, leaving Arsenal in a difficult situation in terms of replacing him.

Despite generally strong finances, Arsenal’s decision to accept a bid from City makes sense if they are to remain truly competitive in the transfer market.

Still, it looks a big blow for the Gunners to lose the 28-year-old to one of their Premier League rivals, particularly with City already looking so strong this season.

Indeed it almost remains hard to see how Sanchez would fit in to this current side, with so many attacking players shining for Guardiola already this term.

The Spanish tactician has the likes of Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane and Kevin De Bruyne to choose from in positions Sanchez can play, so it’s unclear who he’d replace in the side.

Still, Sanchez has shown himself to be one of the top attacking players in world football down the years, with Guardiola seemingly remaining a big fan of the player he previously signed when he was at Barcelona.
