Arsenal could face competition from Real Madrid for the transfer of Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling as he seeks to delay contract talks with his club.

The Daily Mirror report that the England international wants to focus on the Premier League title this season and next summer’s World Cup before discussing a new deal at the Etihad Stadium.

This will be worrying news for City, with the Mirror claiming Real Madrid could still be interested in Sterling since looking at him during his Liverpool days.

The Mirror also reported earlier this season that Arsenal could still be keen on a swap deal involving Sterling and Alexis Sanchez, having failed to agree such a deal in the summer.

Sterling has been in superb form this season and is not a player City would want to lose to a rival, but Alexis Sanchez has been linked with Pep Guardiola’s side and Arsene Wenger would surely need a top class replacement in that position.

The Mirror have also recently linked PSG with Sanchez as he heads towards the end of his contract at the Emirates Stadium, but Sterling has arguably been the better performer this term.

The 22-year-old has 13 goals already this season – the highest tally of his career so far, and would also fit in nicely at the Bernabeu.

With the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema out of form and Gareth Bale struggling with injuries, Real are not short of spaces for Sterling to fill in their attack.
