Bad news for Man City, Mourinho receives triple Man Utd injury boost

Man Utd host rivals Man City at Old Trafford on Sunday, and Jose Mourinho has had some injury updates that will be music to his ears.

The Red Devils trail Pep Guardiola’s men by eight points after 15 games, and so a win this weekend may not be decisive, but it would certainly apply more pressure on them to maintain their lead at the top.

According to The Mirror, Mourinho is set for a huge triple boost with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Maroune Fellaini and Phil Jones set to be passed fit to feature having struggled with fitness troubles.

Ibrahimovic hasn’t played much after recovering from a serious knee injury suffered last season, but his two teammates will be key, particularly Jones who has been a big part of the best defence in the Premier League so far this year.

They’ve conceded just nine goals in 15 outings, with Jones an ever-present in the side prior to suffering a setback with his hamstring injury while on international duty last month.

United have done well without him, but having him back in the heart of the defence will surely be seen as a major positive by Mourinho.

As for Fellaini, he could be welcomed back with open arms by United supporters, who believe that they spotted a key weakness in City’s defending from set pieces last weekend in their hard-fought win over West Ham United.

The commanding Belgian could therefore be a threat on Sunday if he’s selected to feature, and with Paul Pogba ruled out through suspension, there’s certainly a place in midfield next to Nemanja Matic that Mourinho has to fill and so his return is well timed.
