Man Utd out to hijack Chelsea move for £61m-rated target to address key problem

Man Utd have reportedly set their sights on a Chelsea target in Juventus defender Alex Sandro, as Jose Mourinho looks to rectify an issue in his squad.

Despite boasting the best defensive record in the Premier League having conceded just nine goals in 15 games so far this season, the Portuguese tactician still hasn’t managed to find a long-term option at left-back.

Ashley Young has done a commendable job filling in and Mourinho certainly has options in the likes of Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo and of course Luke Shaw, who has struggled to establish himself in the team.

In a bid to finally address the situation and provide balance to his side to compliment what Antonio Valencia offers on the right flank, The Express report that United are considering a swoop for Alex Sandro, a Chelsea target who is said to be valued at around £61m by Juventus.

Although the 26-year-old has proven his class since his move to Turin in 2015, making 91 appearances for the Serie A giants, winning two league titles and enjoying a run to the Champions League final last season, that’s a lot of money for a left-back.

While Man Utd’s need for one is explained above, it’s no surprise Chelsea are interested too as Antonio Conte needs depth to give Marcos Alonso competition and an opportunity to rest.

The Spaniard has been an almost ever-present this season making 21 appearances, rarely not playing a full 90 minutes in the league and Europe, and so the lack of depth really needs to be sorted out.

It appears as though Alex Sandro has emerged as the answer to the question for both clubs, but time will tell if he makes the switch to England next summer.
