Arsenal fans get very excited, club drop huge perceived hint over extension

Arsenal may well have just got fans excited for no reason or possibly even genuinely dropped a major hint that Mesut Ozil is staying.

The Gunners opted to post a series of Ozil’s best goals on Twitter on Sunday in what appeared to just be an innocent tweet following on from his impressive strike in the win over Newcastle United at the weekend.

However, judging from the reaction below, these Arsenal supporters believed something else was in the offing, and that was a possible build up to a contract renewal for the German international.

Ozil will see his current deal expire at the end of the season, therefore resulting in him being able to leave the Emirates on a free transfer.

Losing him is bad enough in itself for Arsenal, but to see him leave for nothing would be a major blow, and so they will get one last chance in the January transfer window to offload him and receive a fee if they choose to, albeit a reduced one given his contract situation.

Nevertheless, the fans have decided to remain positive and perhaps have looked too deep into this as seen in the reaction below, as many were convinced that the decision to share Ozil’s best goals was simply just a pre-cursor to an announcement over a new contract.

Arsenal didn’t follow it up immediately with a contract update, and so unfortunately for these supporters, it looks as though they may have got excited for no reason…
