Arsenal star admits players were ‘scared’ in the Liverpool game

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere believes his side were too scared against Liverpool and that prevented them from playing their own game, especially in the first half.

Jurgen Klopp’s side had the better of the first period and went in 1-0 up at the break, before doubling their lead early in the second half.

Arsenal then took control and raced into a 3-2 lead with three goals in just four minutes as the game turned on its head in a crazy second period.

Still, Wilshere believes the Gunners’ slow start was down to fear, which makes sense given how devastating Liverpool have been in attack this season.

Mohamed Salah has been particularly explosive for the Reds, scoring 21 goals already since his summer move from Roma.

At times, they gave Arsenal nightmares at the back, so it’s refreshingly honest of Wilshere to admit it struck fear into the Arsenal players.

‘We felt we didn’t do ourselves justice in the first half, we played with fear; we were scared to play our natural game,’ Wilshere told Sky Sports afterwards.

‘We allowed them to take the game to us, we had a strong look at ourselves at half-time and improved. We’re disappointed not to win the game but we were much better in the second-half.’
