Manchester United 2-2 Burnley: Fans slam return to the David Moyes era as Jesse Lingard heroics gets Reds out of trouble

Manchester United staged a late comeback to draw 2-2 with Burnley after a shocking first half display saw them go 2-0 down to Sean Dyche’s plucky side.

Jose Mourinho’s side were themselves the victims of a late equaliser against Leicester City a few days ago, but will ultimately just be disappointed to drop more points again against opponents they’ll feel they should be beating.

Here’s a look at the key highlights from the game at Old Trafford…

Man of the match

It’s easily Jesse Lingard after his one-man show saved an otherwise dire United side against Burnley.

Jesse Lingard showed his importance for Manchester United again

The 25-year-old came on at half time and his deft flick halved the deficit while he was on hand again to steer home a stoppage time leveller.

One of United’s most important players in recent times, Lingard has shown he’s the man for the big occasion once again when others went missing.

Flop of the match

Easy winner here is Marcos Rojo, who was so bad Mourinho dragged him off at half time.

United fans were tearing into the defender’s display after a torrid first 45 minutes, when he looked completely unconvincing in everything he tried to do.

A liability in his defending, Rojo also got a few simple passes wrong and it’s little surprise to see Mourinho thought anything was better than having him back there, as he moved Nemanja Matic into the back four instead.

Reaction

If Rojo was the target at half time, the blame was almost solely laid at Mourinho’s door by the end as this David Moyes-esque performance was panned by fans and pundits alike…
