Arsenal given clear chance to ruin Manchester United’s transfer plans

Barcelona are reportedly looking into signing Mesut Ozil in the January transfer window, giving Arsenal a perfect opportunity to get one over rivals Manchester United.

The Red Devils remain keen on snapping up the German playmaker, but the Gunners would rather cash in on Barca’s interest this winter if possible to avoid losing him to a rival, according to the Daily Express.

While Ozil would likely join United once his contract expires, Barcelona seem ready to swoop for him earlier as they eye a number of bargain signings this January to bolster their squad.

Marca list as many as five names on the Catalans’ radar, but some Arsenal fans will be hoping they follow through with Ozil as a priority.

Of course, many will also be hoping there’s still a chance of Ozil signing a new contract in north London, but that seems unlikely now given how long this situation has been allowed to run.

The 29-year-old also seems a great fit for how Barcelona like to play, and may feel a move to the Nou Camp boosts his own personal ambitions after failing to pick up much in the way of major silverware during his time at Arsenal.

In truth, Barca also look a better bet than United right now in terms of challenging for league titles and the Champions League, so there seems plenty of reason for Gooners to be optimistic he won’t end up at their rivals.
