Chelsea, Man Utd told to splash out £53m for crucial January target

Both Chelsea and Man Utd have issues at left-back, with reports claiming that Juventus star Alex Sandro could be the solution for one of them.

For the Blues, it’s a case of being over-reliant on Marcos Alonso, with the Spaniard featuring heavily so far this season. The 27-year-old has made 26 appearances in all competitions, rarely playing less than 90 minutes when available.

With Chelsea looking to compete on various fronts between now and the end of the season, that is simply unsustainable for Alonso, and so competition for places is needed at the very least as far as Antonio Conte is concerned.

As for United, Luke Shaw has failed to nail down the position at Old Trafford, while Ashley Young has done a commendable job in filling in. However, a natural long-term left-back is surely needed by Mourinho to solve the problem area.

In turn, the case for both clubs to make a move to strengthen at left-back is obvious, and Tuttosport claim, as re-reported by The Sun, that both could be given a chance to land Sandro’s signature next month but they’ll have to spend £53m in order to do so.

Sandro has been an important and consistent figure for the Turin giants since he arrived in 2015 from Porto, offering defensive solidity and an attacking threat on the left flank.

However, as per the report, he could be reaching the end of his stint in Italy, and it remains to be seen whether or not one of Chelsea or United are able to reach an agreement and secure his signature next month. That’s certainly a sizeable transfer fee though, and so time will tell if they’re willing to splash out.
