Arsene Wenger: Sir Alex Ferguson DIDN'T blunder in appointing David Moyes as his successor

ARSENE WENGER has waded into the David Moyes sacking debate, with the Arsenal manager claiming Sir Alex Ferguson didn't make a mistake in choosing his successor for the Manchester United post.

Ferguson, who is a director on the board at Old Trafford, has kept relatively quiet over Moyes' sacking and has admitted the episode has been 'upsetting'.

Ferguson hand-picked his successor after retiring at the end of last season after 26 years at the helm of the Red Devils, but Moyes' doomed reign lasted just 10 months.

And Ferguson it seems has found an unlikely source of support in Wenger, who says he didn't make a mistake with choosing his successor.

"I told you many times it's not my job to appoint my successor," Wenger said.

The most important thing for the guy coming in was to have his support. It wasn't a mistake

"Alex [Ferguson] was in good position to have his say and we must give some credit to him.

"It is important he had his support. The most important thing for the guy coming in was to have his support. It wasn't a mistake."

Wenger also jovially responded to claims he could throw his hat into the ring for the United vacancy.

He added: "I fancy the job I have here!"
