The Gunners were in talks with QPR for Remy but baulked at the Frenchman's £80,000-a-week wages.

Remy is now heading to the USA - where Liverpool are on their pre-season tour - for a medical ahead of an £8.5million move.

And according to reports, Arsenal are again exploring a deal for Italy star Balotelli.

Mario Balotelli Player Profile

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has previously denied his interest in Balotelli, while recently insisted he is not looking to sign a new striker.

"Up front we don't need any more," said Wenger.

However, rumours continue to link the north London club with a swoop for the mercurial hitman.

Whispers persist that Arsenal's new kit suppliers Puma - who also sponsor Balotelli - want the player in the capital.

And the 23-year-old sent speculation into overdrive last week when he posed for a picture with girlfriend Fanny Neguesha in a Puma shop in front of Arsenal colours.

But Balotelli's reported wage demands of £100,000-a-week AFTER TAX could put pay to any potential move, even if AC Milan are willing to sell the former Manchester City man for a cut-price £16m.
