Walcott missed out on the second half of the Gunners’ 2013/14 campaign after sustaining a ruptured knee ligament in a 2-0 win over Spurs.

The England winger also missed out on his nation’s World Cup bid this summer, but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes he will return to his squad by the end of this month.

The 25-year-old is likely to be eased back into games against Leicester City, Manchester City and Aston Villa, and should be fully fit to play a big part in the North London derby.

“Theo Walcott is planned to come back into my group on 31st August, beginning of September at the latest,” Wenger said.

“He is doing well but he is not completely ready. I would say he could play at the end of August.”

Walcott was in fine form for the Emirates side last season, scoring five goals and assisting as many in his 13 Premier League outings.
