Arsene Wenger admits he is still considering signing an "exceptional" player this summer.

The Arsenal manager has so far refrained from spending big money in the transfer market, .

Former Chelsea keeper Petr Cech is the only big-name player to come through the doors at the Emirates, however the Gunners have been linked with Real Madrid ace Karim Benzema and Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain.

And Wenger revealed that a major deal could still happen before the end of the transfer window.

"At the moment we do not have Sanchez, not Welbeck, and when these players come back we feel that we have the needed striking force," Wenger said.

"But we don't rule out as well if something exceptional turns up to do it."

While Arsenal youngster Serge Gnabry has joined West Brom on a season-long loan.

Gnabry, 20, will play under Hawthorns boss Tony Pulis.

"We're delighted to add Serge to our options," Pulis said.

"He is a top player and he will bring us quality in certain areas of the pitch."

Gnabry didn't make an appearance at Arsenal last term, having played 14 games in the previous campaign.

Bayern Munich have "not ruled out a possible transfer" of midfielder Mario Gotze – with Arsenal reportedly interested in the ace.

That is according to the player's agent Volker Struth, who told Tuttosport Gotze may seek to leave Bayern this summer.

Struth said: "Mario has made it clear that his last two seasons have not been idyllic.

"However, it's also true that no club has come forward with an offer. Bayern have not ruled out a possible transfer, just as we won't rule out any possible opportunity, to stay or go abroad."

Mario Gotze - Spotlight on

"There's still a long way to go until the end of the transfer window, so anything can still happen."

Gotze has reportedly been tracked by Arsenal for some time, with Manchester United also said to be interested.

The Red Devils have spent big this summer on five new players, with Barcelona winger Pedro expected to be the sixth.

But if those talks break down, it is believed manager Louis van Gaal will target Gotze – having already raided Bayern of Bastian Schweinsteiger this summer.
