John Stones - Spotlight on

Chelsea have been dealt a blow in their bid to sign John Stones from Everton.

The England defender has been told he's staying put at Goodison Park.

He submitted a transfer request on Tuesday to try and force through a move.

And Chelsea have now had four bids rejected for Stones.

Express Sport understands a fourth bid of £37million was rejected today.

He played in last night's extra-time Capital One Cup victory over Barnsley and today Bill Kenwright has told him to sit tight.

"Everton Football Club has rejected a transfer request from John Stones," the club's chairman said in a statement today.

"Since the start of the transfer window, we have resolutely turned down offers from another Premier League football club for our player.

"John is not for sale and he will remain a highly valued member of our first team squad."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed he is working around the clock to secure a new signing before deadline day.

Having only signed Petr Cech so far this summer the Frenchman has come under fire after a stuttering start.

“I am available 24 hours per day so I am involved in the decision,” Wenger said.

“I cannot say I am very confident [about bringing someone in] because we are not close to signing anybody at the moment but the transfer market is always moving in the last four or five days.

“We work very hard and I have a team around me that works day and night to find good solutions but at the moment we are not close to signing anybody.

“You have specific targets but as well sometimes you get an idea from somebody where you didn’t know that a player that you like was available.

“If you get an opportunity like that you do it.”

Manchester United are preparing to launch a £32.8million bid for Lazio midfielder Felipe Anderson, according to reports.

Following yesterday's qualification for the Champions League group stages United are ready to splash some more cash this summer.

Anderson, 22, is the man they want, according to Sky Italia.
