Arsenal News: Walcott plea, Cavani revelation, legend worries for title, Man Utd dig

EXPRESS SPORT brings you all the latest news from the Emirates.

Theo Walcott - Spotlight On

Theo Walcott has reiterated his desire to lead the line at Arsenal.

Walcott started up front in the Gunners' 1-0 win over Newcastle last Saturday but has had to contend mostly with starting from the bench so far this season.

On the rare occasion that he does start, he is normally deployed on the wing but the winger-come-striker is desperate for a chance through the middle.

“It’s obviously well documented that I want to play up front but there’s a lot of competition for places here," he said.

Walcott's plea might have forced manager Arsene Wenger's hand when it came to his transfer market dealings.

Wenger was widely expected to sign a new striker, with a bid for PSG's Edinson Cavani thought to be in the pipeline

However, reports suggest the Frenchman pulled out of a deal because the 28-year-old does not have a sell-on value.

claim Wenger made calls to sign the Uruguay international but was put off by the £50million asking price.

And club legend Thierry Henry fears the failure to secure some competition up front might harm Arsenal's Premier League title hopes.

The Gunners made just one signing in the window - Petr Cech from Chelsea for £10m - and Henry thinks the lack of a goalscorer to challenge Giroud is a worry.

Edinson Cavani - Spotlight On

"Right now they are already five points behind City, still have not won at home, won two games by an own goal, which is actually their best goal scorer at the moment," he said.

Wenger appears to have distanced himself from the transfer market, however, after becoming disillusioned by the amount of money being spent.

Rivals Manchester United could end up paying £58m for Anthony Martial and the Gunners boss appeared to have a dig upon hearing the news.

"Martial scored 11 goals in the French championship - that sums it up well," Wenger said.
