Liverpool legend provides insight into how Arsenal do their frugal transfer business

GRAEME SOUNESS says Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has never bowed to supporter pressure to sign players.

Arsenal v Tottenham - Premier League preview

Arsenal infamously failed to land a single outfield player during last summer's window - the only club in Europe's top five leagues to do so.

There were calls for Wenger to spend big after a 2-0 defeat to West Ham on the opening day of the season.

But the boss held firm on his transfer policy and former Liverpool player and manager Souness praised the Frenchman for that stance.

As for Souness, the Scot - who played for six years at Liverpool before managing them in the early '90s - added that .

"Should Arsenal have bought more players over the summer? They would argue they are second in the Premier League table, have the best defensive record and are the division's fourth highest scorers," he wrote.

"People will say they should have bought another striker, but scoring goals isn't a problem for them at the moment.

"Their issues, in my opinion, are that the central midfield players they have leave the back four vulnerable."
